"You asked me to tell you what the Pope and the Church expect from ... the entire Charismatic Renewal... What does the Pope expect from you? I expect this movement:

- to share baptism in the Holy Spirit with everyone in the Church. It is the grace you have received. Share it!  Don’t keep it to yourselves!

- to serve the unity of the body of Christ, the Church, the community of believers in Jesus Christ. This is very important, for the Holy Spirit reates unity in the Church, but also diversity. 

- and to serve the poor and those in greatest need, physical or spiritual.for this is in the Gospel. 

The Catholic Charismatic Renewal, Diocese of Scranton, seeks to stir into flame the Grace of Pentecost and to support the various expressions of this special “Current of Grace”(1) within the Diocese of Scranton . While maintaining a bond of unity & collaboration with the Bishop of Scranton, we facilitate a “Service of Communion”(2) among various CCR leaders as their groups encourage people to fulfill the Holy Father’s mission for the Catholic Charismatic Renewal as expressed in CHARIS (Catholic Charismatic Renewal International Service).(3)   TO LEAD-TO UNIFY-TO SERVE!

HOLY FATHER’S MISSION FOR THE CCR

1. TO LEAD - To lead people in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and lead them to the Baptism in the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
2. TO UNIFY - To serve the unity of the body of Christ.  That unity is expressed in supporting “communion” among various expressions of this stream of grace within our diocese, working in partnership with related diocesan offices, and supporting “Spiritual Ecumenism”(4) whenever possible.
3. TO SERVE - To serve the poor and those in greatest need, physical or spiritual.

1. CURRENT OF GRACE – Today it is estimated that there are more than 120 million people who claim to be part of the CCR. “The Catholic Charismatic Renewal is not a program, a type of spirituality, or a movement with a founder, but is a flow of grace inspired by the Holy Spirit for the WHOLE CHURCH !  It is a “CURRENT OF GRACE” for the whole church that allows individuals, groups, communities, activities & ministries to express themselves in different ways with different forms of organization.” All these diverse forms and organizations do share in the same fundamental experience of “Baptism in the Holy Spirit.”  (See CHARIS PREAMBLE, page 1)
2. SERVICE OF COMMUNION – This term exemplifies that the particular organization (whether international, continental, national, or diocesan) is tasked with the combined objectives of providing “service to (not governance) and fostering communion” among various forms of the CCR within its particular area while acting in unity and “under the jurisdiction of competent ecclesiastical authorities.” (In our diocese for example, under the jurisdiction of our local Ordinary or Bishop). 3. CATHOLIC CHARISMATIC RENEWAL INTERNATIONAL SERVICES (CHARIS) – This organization was formally established and initiated in Rome in June of 2017, under the direction of Pope Francis. It established an International, Continental, and National Services of Communion for the Catholic Charismatic Renewal throughout the world.
4. SPIRITUAL ECUMENISM – Ecumenism that includes a “change of heart and holiness of life, along with public and private prayer for the unity of Christians; should be regarded as the soul of the whole ecumenical movement and merits the name Spiritual Ecumenism.” This effort must include love, respect, fellowship, prayer, and dialogue.  (See Decree on Ecumenism, Chapter 2, Practice of Ecumenism).
